I HAVE HAD SOME TROUBLE PUTTING MY Y2K 500 AUTO BACK IN 2 WHEEL DR. AFTER WE GET THREW SOME AGGRESSIVE RIDING. I TRIED PUTTING IT IN NUTERAL, DRIVE,REVERSE,GIVING IT A LITTLE GAS,NOT. PULLING THE LEVER OUT, FEELS LIKE IM GONNA BRAKE IT OFF BEFORE IT WILL PULL OUT AND DISENGAGE. WHEN I DO IT WHEN WE FIRST GET ON THEM IT EASY AND SMOOTH. DO YOU THINK IT JUST NEEDS TO BE BROKEN IN LONGER (115)MILES ON IT, OR SHOULD I TAKE IT BACK TO THE DEALER.

I occassionally have this problem with mine (300 miles), usually after stopping abrubtly then trying to disengage. I just ease it forward 10-15 feet, and it usually disengages without a problem.(Used to work on my old 4x4 pickup too) I think the problem is that it doesn't want to disengage when there is a torque acting on the differential. If that doesn't help, I would have the dealer check it out.

I have almost 400 miles on mine. Same thing--IF--I try to go from 2WD to 4WD or vise versa when at a stop. I almost always switch when just barely rolling. It hasn't hurt anything and works much easier. I learned it during my first week of riding and have been doing it ever since. Give it a try.

I had the same problem with my one of my cats. When I first got it, I had to fight it to get it to shift. Now its pull up and back up over and over to get it to release. On the other one... I have never had this problem.
