Starting up the CAT
#1
My AC hasn't been started in nearly 2 weeks until last night. I was worried about this because I had never let it go that long. To my suprise after priming and a full choke it started up with no problem whatsoever. It really impressed me. If that would have been a Polaris I would more than likely been out there for a while. NO offense Polaris owners. Just making a statement.

How was the weather when you started it? If it was cold, and you would have been trying to start a Honda you would have been out there alot longer than even that Polaris. Trust me I have tried to start my uncles 350 and 300 and it is very hard. But after they get warmed up you have no trouble.

BIGBADCAT, I'm kinda glad that you ended your post like you did or I would definately be offeded. I have a 500 Magnum and I go anywhere between 3 to 4 weeks without starting mine. And when I do go to start it, I give it half choke and that's it. Starts without any problems. Once again I have to agree with Boner. I had 2 old Honda 350s that would take forever and a day to crank. Can't go anywhere in a rush whenever you go to start one of these cold natured bikes. I would turn it over so much I would wonder how much longer the battery would give out the juice.

Well it was about 30 something degrees. Like I said it really impressed me that it started up in that temp. after not being started for so long. I dont know about the Honda and Polaris. My cousin can go out and push start on his Honda 300 and it starts up no problem. It doesn't get ridden alot either. Now my uncle's 400 sportsman never starts. You have to start it fully choked and it still won't stay running for a good while. That was a good test for the Cat even if it wasn't intentional.

I didn't think Polaris made a quad in 1984. Yamaha didn't offer anything but three wheelers unless it was a 1-- cc bike. The YFM 200 wasn't introduced until 85. Kawasaki's biggest 84 model was the Bayou 185, hondas was the TRX 200, and I don't think Suzuki made bigger than a 200 or maybe 230. I don't think Polaris made one that early. Seems like maybe 1986 was the first year for the trail boss 250. That was when Yamaha introduced the 225 and Kawasaki put out the venerable Bayou 300. Also Suzuki showed off the infamous LT250R in 85 followed by the legendary Honda 250r the next year..
My honda 300 starts easier than my AC does, and its 10 years old. I would imagine that the 350 might be harder to start, because the Fourtrax 250's were harder to start than the 300's. They didn't have that primer either for extremely cold starts. Anything today is better than the older bikes though. My old Yamahas were a bitch to start when it was cold. They also had the crappiest choke lever that Polaris still uses for some reason. I like the Suzuki/AC choke engagement and the hondas much better.
