I have an '03 400 is there a simple way to remove the trunk
I'm trying to install a winch and it would make it much
easier to wire the solenoid. Am I missing something obvious
because it looks almost impossible
thanks in advance

Hi liquidplumber; Can't be much help to you in the removal of your trunk as I just got my ride a week ago. Am I to understand that you are mounting you winch on the back of your machine?
I got a 04 with the reciever hitch and was thinking that I could use that to mount my winch. Let me know how it works out.

you have to take the rear rack and plastic off. take off rear tranny snorkel and pull trunk straight up. check to make sure there is enough room between the battery compartment and trunk for the solenoid before you remove anything. there wasn't enough room on mine to put the solenoid where they have the pre-drilled holes. i have an '03 500i but i think everything is the same. i just moved my solenoid over a little and didn't have to remove anything.

Thank-you Madcat you were exactly right I moved the holes about
a 1/2 inch to the outside and was able to get it. Still a MAJOR pain
in the butt though that is a terrible design I should have paid the $70.00
and had the dealer install!
Hey bean the winch is going in front in the usual spot it was the solenoid
location I was talking about. I have heard of kits that allow you to
move the winch from front to back but never looked into them.
Have fun on the new bike you will love it!
thanks again

i took mine out through the side it was tight and i beet it up a little but it came out.
and i dident have to take it all apart.
i think i had to remove the block that the battery cables are hooked up to but thats minor compared to takeing half the bike apart.
