Hello all thanks for the info, I will have time to play with it today When the motor warms up I will turn down the idle a bit and see what happens, I will tell you all what happens I know the dealer was playing with the idle speed. Thanks.

My 500 TRV has done this gear grind a couple of times. I've made it a habit to shift to neutral when shifting out of low to high range. Have never experienced the problem when going to neutral before high. I have to adjust the idle often due to it being cold here. I may crank it up two or three half turns when its 10 degrees and turn it back down again after the engine has warmed up. Althought he engine RPM didnt seem to be related to the shifting problem. I wonder - maybe I should switch to synthetic oil??

My 300 Arctic Cat 2x4 did that to. You may want to get it checked on because after about a year my tranny stared slipping really bad and i dont have a clue why it did.

Well, Today we had about 7" of snow and it is still coming down and this thing is a arctic blast. Anyway I turned down the idle a bit and it seemed to help but not much. I tried it 2 times the first time it did well and the second time it didnt catch. I will ask the dealer about it. Anyway I think I will shift from L to N Until the engine and everything breaks in properly I like that way better. I will not be working L that offen anyway only when I am pulling something heavy. Thanks

Red,
When talking to your dealer, make sure he reports your complaint to Artic. This way it is recorded as a customer complaint on your Cat and if something does happen (hope not!) at least there is a record of you bringing it in for this problem. May just help for warrenty reasons.......

My 04 400i manual sticks from reverse to high just like AKFIREMAN's does. I've only got about twenty miles on it so far. I'll leave it alone for now. I may have to make the adjustment later on even though I almost got ran over backing out of a driveway trying to get out of the middle of the road. I had that deer in the headlights look trying to grab the right gear.

It is most likely the idle is too high. I have a TRV and as it brokein the idle increased and did the same thing. Turn the idle down after it warms up and that should cure it. My dealer said when the idle is too high and you are in low 4 wheel drive and go to high range the clutch is partially engaged and will not allow proper engagement. That is the lovely sound you are hearing! I typically turn the idle up when I start it to warm it up and then after 15 minutes or so turn it down pretty low but not low enough it would die.

My 500i has always been a bit reluctant to go from low to high range. More often than not, the shifter won't move all the way forward unless I either rock it back and forth a lot, or put the regular transmission in gear and give it a bit of gas, and then it finally goes all the way forward.

No problem going hi to low.
