I have to respectfully disagree with your assumption that larger ,heavier tires and wheels do not cause axle failure. Ask any structural engineer and they will tell you that stress and fatigue WILL cause failure at the weak point in any driveline. As in the Jeep YJ, the axle is the weak point and bigger tires do cause failures whether it be from sudden overload or over time with fatigue. This is a commonly known fact in the Jeep circles and the same principals apply to ATVs. The good news is that an axle is cheaper than a differential or a tranny!

Agreed TRV, any dealer that tells a customer this is being less than honest. If he'll cover the breakages under warranty though, that's great!!! ONce the warranty's over, they should be aware that larger/fatter tires etc WILL put added stress on the entire vehicle. Whether anything breaks or not is up to luck.
However, there's no doubt that from a scientific and mechanical point of view, the added stresses are there, and eventually will cause things to wear out and/or break at a faster pace.

i never said that that the bigger tires wouldent cause it to brake.
i just said that when thay broke thay where not stressing.
i was taking it easy.
im sure the tires play a factor in the ware and tare on the bike, but how many guys have hondas and kawasaki's and all the other name brand quads with big tires.
there not braking them like the arctic cats are thats all im saying.
i know a guy with two 650 preries and he has the exact same tires as i have and hes going on three years now without a single problem.
i dont know one person around here thats broken an axle except me.
and i ride with alot of people with alot of differant name brand quads.
and almost everyone has bigger tires then stock.
on any weekend theres at least six or more of us out at a time, and i see guys riding theres alot harder then i'll ever ride mine.
im not trying to get into a debate on wether or not it was the tires fault thay broke.
maybe it was waybe it wasent i dont care i just want it fixed.
every thing wares out thats a fact.
but these axles are weak and thay know it.

i wonder how many other guys out there with 28" tires are braking axels with other name brand quads.
stress is stress it happens every time you go out riding.
theres guys with stock tires that ride there quads very hard and theres guys who have quads with big tires that dont ride them very hard at all, thay just have the big tires because when thay need them thay got them.
it still shouldent brake them that easy.
i ride my cat alot and i put lots of miles on it and i have two freinds that ride with me all the time.
and thay havent had a single problem.
some of the guys i ride with like to jump theres and there still going, and i dont jump mine and if i did it probly would have broken them along time ago.
may it the irs i dont know.
