Ceramic coated piston? I could be wrong but I believe the cylinder is coated not the piston. I have had this engine apart and the piston APPEARS to be PLAIN old AL. But the sleeve is a dark grey/black. Also the service manual says it can't be honed it must be replaced. Also the glowing pipe alone will not do much damage(melted airbox, melted seat bottom, melted bat. comp., melted fenders, melted storage box, melted fuse box) but if it causes enough heat to build up it will starve the engine for fuel, which WILL seize the engine. All of the above has happened.(read previous post)If you want to risk it be my guest. If you live in a cold climate you may not need to worry.I live in OH, it gets up to 98 here which is enough to vapor lock my quad. A $22.95 vacuum powered fuel pump will fix the problem. It applies just enough pressure to keep the fuel from boiling. Thus no vapor lock.

P.S. The pipe might still glow(mine doesn't)but the engine will not lean out.
