Frozen shifter on my 250 cat
My 2001, AC250 does this. Anyway if I let it sit in the cold. If you are running, it there seems to be enough engine heat to keep it thawed out. I just used a space heater on the left side foot rest to thaw it after I figured out what was up. I use to leave it in gear, but quit so I could at least get the engine running. Took about 25 minutes to warm up enough to thaw it out without the space heater. Only about 5 minute with the heater on and engine off. I plan on swapping out the cable later on, but temps went back above freezing(normal for here) and no problem since.

Frozen shifter on my 250 cat
I just got back from the dealer and the total for conversion parts including a new foot shifter pedal is $55.32USD. It is a simple remove the old and bolt in the new. No more sloppy and freezing cable. You also get a much more positive shifter. BTW the cable alone is $97.97USD. So its cheaper to swap out and you get only pluses in the deal.

Frozen shifter on my 250 cat
Just installed the updated shifter parts. Went in real easy, except for the old shift cable holder was in the way. However this bracket also holds the reverse cable. Solved it by removing the bracket, cut of the part of the bracket that held the shift cable off and reinstalled it. Reverse still works fine and the shift rod doesn't hit anything now. Shifting is very positive now. Took an hour to do, with about 20 minutes spent on the bracket. I did jack the bike up and removed the left rear wheel to make it easier to reach the lever on the tranny. I am glad I did the change over, works super.
