Yesterday I went to an AC dealer to check his prices on a 400 4x4 auto. He wanted 5299. for the plain rack model, and 5449. for the MRP rack model. When I said I wanted the advertized $69. winch, he said the base price would be 5484. for the plain rack model with the winch. I said I thought the winches were $69., and he said they cost him $185.00. How can AC advertise nationally a $69. winch when the dealers want to charge you whatever they want for it? How do you get around something like this? I'd really like to get the AC, but I want the best deal possible.
Also, is that a good price for the 04 400? He wants 6199 for the 500 auto. How about that price? Help.

 

Hello, I have a the ? It is 69$ for the winch. but if you read the fine print on there advertising that does not include dealer installation. That is were he is getting the 185.00. When I got my 500 I took the 3.5% I figured the winch I can put that on and I know it would be done right. My 500 I paid 6,450 out the door. Before taxes and all the other nickel and dime stuff it was 5,750.

 

The winch is not that hard to put on. The hardest part is getting the control wire from the handle bars to underneath the fenders. Should take an hour or two to install. Good luck.

 

The wench costs is shared by Cat, the dealer and yourself. When I was pricing my 500, several of the dealers asked before quoting a price if I was getting the wench. Even if you pay the extra, still cheaper then buying some place else.

If the $185 is for installation, then you are getting ripped. Its an easy install. I did mine in an hour and a half, that included a trip to the hardware store to do a little customizing. First wench install for me as well

im pretty sure they' re the warn winches that cat has in the accessorie catalog, its on 69 bucks because its a deal. I have a 49 dollar winch out of the northern tool catalog i believe, im not really sure which catalog its from because my dad ordered it. Its good enuf for me, i dont do mud bogging, its there just incase i need it someday, and for 49 bucks, if it breaks Ill just replace it

 

would you consider a Polaris. they are giving the warn winch Free when you buy a 4-wheeler. a 500 is $5999 and is has more features for the money over a Cat.

The winch is a Warn 2.5. I'm surprised you said it "sounds like the kind of winch that would leave you stranded." I thought it was considered one of the best.

 

The portion of the winch that the dealer has to pay is $185. I suppose if you pay retail price the dealer can absorb the extra $$$
but if he's selling it a small amount over cost, of course he can't absorb it, that why there is the price difference of which you were quoted.

 

You should pay $69.00 for the Warn winch. A/C will reimburse the dealer for the difference. That is my understanding. It is A/C's deal and the dealer just pass' the saving to the consumer. It shouldn't be a big deal. The Warn winch is a proven product that you will be happy with.
