I decided to take the Supertrapp pipe off.Its been on for 80 miles. If anyone wants it send me an offer.I did notice a nice gain in power. Why am I removing it then? First off I am selling my Auto Cat. I have snorkled and silconed that damn belt housing and I still get the stinkin belt wet. I don't mind draining the belt but when muddy water gets in there it messes up the clutch and you waste a whole day pulling everthing apart cleaning the clutch etc.It is,and has gotten old. Once and awhile is fine but everytime I've ridden this summer...I just don't have time for that. Belts are prone to getting wet, yes, but i had one wet belt in 2000 miles of riding the same trails on my two previous belt drive machines.I have a ride next week then off with the winch, rack extension, pipe, jet kit and K&N filter. Gonna talk to my dealer and find out when they will be getting the 2001 manuals in.I want the hydraulic rear brake,2/4wd selector. Either that or I will go buy a Honda. I just don't think I would like the ride.

WHY ARE YOU SELLING THE PIPE if you plan on getting a manual shift model? The Pipe will fit the Manual, but the jet kit will not.

I won't put the pipe on my next machine, for several reasons. This weekend I talked to a relative who works for the U.S. Forest Service in an area where we have a large trail system. He said there was going to be a push to ban
after-market pipes on the trails in the National Forests this next year.Upon hearing this I talked to my local Game Warden (in Wisconsin the Dept. of Natural Resources controls the registration of ATV's) who lives across the street from me. He said there was talk of this at the state level as well. He also said they didn't need a special law because they have an arbitrary rule against
excessive exhaust noise levels on ATV's. If it sounds loud to a Warden you can get a ticket. If they decide to start cracking down they will do so immediately. He did say that my Arctic Cat sounded rather loud.......He said it with a smirk
,just giving me a hard time. On top of that I received my latest copy of the Wisconsin ATV association magazine, in it they are asking all its members to use only stock pipes on their machines that they ride on our trails. The extra noise is being used by local residents to try and close trails. One trail system has already adopted such a law already because of this. Is the SuperTrapp pipe louder than stock , yes. Is it excessive, no I don't think it is. It is
certainly not as loud as the pipes on some of the 400ex's,Banshee's and the like I have heard. So far, other than the one trail system, pipes have not been banned yet. I just figured the gain in power is outweighed by the pain in the **** factor down the road. As far as the Jet kit not working you are correct,soI will sell that as well.

Mike,

Sorry to hear about your bad luck with the wet belts. It is frustrating when things like that happen. I hope you find what you're looking for in a bike that performs like you want it to. That's all any of us want, A bike that does what we want it to do when we want it to do it!!!

Lance,
I really do love the Cat.My riding style has changed the last two years. I prefer to ride the slower trails that have more mud and water holes than flying down the more open trails.I always liked the ease of gas and go when using a belt drive machine but they are not the best for my preferred trails. I also wanted the 2/4wd option. Hopefully the manual Cat will be the answer.

I have a 1998 manual cat and it has been an excellent machine. I really started to trade mine in on an auto, but I am glad I waited and started listening to the forum. Maybe they will get enough complaints about the water problems and build it better in the near future. I don't think you will be disapointed with the manual with the 2wd/4wd option. There is three of us that ride together and we all have manuals with no break downs. Really solid machines! Good luck with your next buy.

Sorry to hear about your troubles with the belt on the Auto 'Cat. Hope you have much better luck with the manual. Talked to my dealer today, said they ordered the '01 models last week, and are expecting them in a couple months. If you've still got the jet kit and wouldn't mind sending me an email, let me know what you are asking for it, I'd be interested.

Good luck with your next machine!

Mike
