Carb drained
A friend of mine just got a Cat 400 auto. He claims the the guy on ATV TV says you should always turn the fuel off and run the carb dry before you transport the rig on your trailer or in your truck. I find this hard to believe, as a professional outboard mechanic for many years, one of the big problems was customers trailering with dry carbs. The floats would bounce against the stops and bend giving them a low float level and a lean condition. I drain carbs if the rig will sit for longer than a week, otherwise no. Your thinking on this would be of interest to me.

I don't agree with running dry for the same reasons stated by Bear 4570. I do think that shutting off fuel should be done, in certain situations (valves in right position) fuel can be siphoned through engine. If fuel is shut off this limits amount that can be pulled. Too much fuel and you can thin down crankcase oil and cause lots more damage.
