Default What in the heck does a key switch do???

I have a scrammy but I'm having some electrical problems...I just want to know what the purpose of the key switch is..I don't need it to start my quad..if I use the pull start...but I don't have any electric..no lights..no 4x4...no fan to the radiator,,,no electric start...and the battery is good...and the stator is good...but all the wires to the lights and everything else intertwine witht the key switch wires...so what the heck does the key switch do!!!????

it turns the main power for all you electrical shat on and off and prevents your battery from going dead when the quad isnt running, you could in theory replace it with a toggle switch but then who ever walked by could fire it up and take off.
