letter states that premature belt wear is being caused by improper use of h/l range.
seems to me the way i read there instructions high range is of no use to most people.
they say only use high range when on straight hard pack trails seems to me its basicly a higway gear only
and who out there bought there 650 for the hwy any way
what atv out there will do 50mph in low range like the cat does please tell me ?
in my opinion this is just a cop out on cats part rather than admitting there is a flaw in there design
thats fine for how i ride, low range will do ,and we'll see if i burn another belt.
any one else have an opinion ?

It sounds like a cop out to me. With your clutch setup you should not be wearing belts fast at all. We have the same motor , same tires, and the same clutch setup. How many belts have you been through ?.

First off it is not Arctic Cat design but Kawasaki. There have been some problems with the belt tension, if you read on this forum or on the Kaw forum there is a washer and spring fix for the ones that are having trouble. As for limp mode I don't have A/C contacts anymore but last I heard it was caused by A/C's wiring harness causing voltage spike and setting off limp mode. I don"t know if they have fix yet but have heard the 05's will not have this problem.

Most of use 02 650 riders did this to curtail the premature belt wear. Bought the black secondary spring from EPI for the bike. Best investment you can make. Second they bike does make tremendous torque and stretches the first generation belts quickly however in the secondary there are adjustable washers. If you go to the website in my sig you will see what they look like. Good news is dayco produces a belt that is supposed to be stronger I have not bought one but I changed my first belt at 425 miles and put the spring in the secondary and currently have 3400 miles on my bike on the one I replaced it with. I do use low but only for climbing steep hills as I think running in low consumes way to much fuel for my taste. Hope this helps out. The guys at Erlandson Performance are great if you give them a call they can help you with most questions and problems units are having with their belt drives..

well i wore mine out at about 600 miles i slipped it in high range when i would crack it down and it would hook up on the grass and even after i removed the washer and put in the black secondary spring it still slipped due to the belt was burnt so i put a new belt in it regularly 70 dollars got it under arctic cat discount for about 60 and haven't had a problem but what gets me about that letter is how they state any aftermarket anything will void the warranty so if i place an aftermarket spring in my wheeler to not give me higher performance or more horsepower but just to make my belt life longer it voids the warranty? if you could have heard me when i read that letter all i can say is that it made me very angry them giving me a letter saying i don't know how to use high or low range yes given alot of ppl don't but i have been around atv's all my life and got my first one for my 6th b-day so i believe that arctcic is just trying to cover there butts

I got the same letter. About two weeks ago I had to have the belt replaced but it was my fault. I was dragging brush in reverse-DUH!

The letter contradicts the owners manual by saying to use low gear except for hard pack trails. The manual says use high except for towing or blading. Which is it.

Humm, that's funny. I would copy the page out of the manual, circle the quote, and send it back asking for a better explanation of how doing what they tell you is going to cause you to incour further cost every 500 odd miles.
