i put a mini tac on my 500 and it did not rev out in 5th with the bigger tires on the wide open roads.
it did with the stock tires though.
and im not retarded.
i just dont think it needs it.

didn't mean you yourself were retarded, just in general. Like somebody who tried to climb hills in 6th gear, or say shifted it to the highest gear from a standstill and then tried to go.
Of course it didn't rev out. You had the heaviest tires known to man on it. Also, are you talking about a Rubicon or an AC? My 99 model AC 500 would have benefited from a 6th gear. Trust me, thats why I have a 660 now.

say they did put in a sixth gear.
you might get an extra 5 to 10m mph.
and for that you would pay extra for.
and the quad costs enuff now.
the company must have thought about when thay built it.
and dident think it was worth the extra cost.

Why would you have to pay extra for it if it had already been in the design. I don't mean aftermarket, if they would have given it a 6th gear, I don't think they would have offered a 5speed and for a few hundred more the daunted "6 speed version!". An extra 5-10 mph puts it up there with about anything else you could get. It would be a nice gain. Gaining 5-10 top end on a quad is a lot.
The company definitely didn't think of it when they built it. And what extra cost is there really? To change something now, yes. To do it that way from the outset, no. They didn't think of a lot of things when they built these. They've had to learn from mistakes for the past 5-6 years.

My 04 500i Auto will only reach 52 with me (250 lbs.) on it, but my boys have got it up around 56. Thats it......... I hear a lot of guys on here going 60+ on theirs but I guess I got a slow one.

They are probably going downhill. I took my Brother in law's 03 up the road the other day and on a very very slight upgrade, it was going like 52-53 and accelerating slowly. I buried the speedometer on the way back though. It wasn't a hill, just wasn't flat.

I think anything over 55 mph is fast enough anyway. You're going to need speed rated tires if you keep increasing the speed of these UTILITY quads. A sixth gear is only going to push people to try for 70 mph, and that's dangerous on unrated rubber. I don't want a mud tire coming apart at that speed, I guarantee you would die.
