In addition to the 500 I got last night I bought the wife a 300 (2001). I have read where the linkage can be adjusted an lose 2wd, or possibly the original shift lever disengaged and a short lever like the trans range shift installed. Has anyone got it to work with modifying the original lever with possibly shorter or longer rod, arms or such and made it 2wd, 4wd and 4wd Lock? I hate to give up the 2wd, but would love the full locker ability. We got to come up with the trick and let each other know with some plans, drawings or photos. I'd like it simple to operate for the wife.

Did you consider a Suzuki King Quad?

If you prefer AC, maybe you can transplant the linkage from the KQ. Sounds like a "too hard" job, perhaps--maybe just overadjusting the AC linkage, extending excursion to the lock point for the front end, is the expedient way to go (hey, she won't miss 2WD, and you'll have a locking front end in all drive ranges!). You don't need no stinkin' drawings to do this!

Bahnerman, Are you trying turn your wife into a "hard body"? She'll develop arms and shoulders like "Chyna" trying to steer that 300 with a locked front end. To each his own....

Thor, the front end locking is controlled by the rider manipulating a shift lever; the front end is only locked when necessary, unlocked and operating in limited-slip mode at all other times.

Bahnerman; I spend hours trying to make original linkage work, forget it either go 3wd & 4wd or rig up a rod similar to the range shifter. I suggest try 3wd & 4wd first, you wife might not notice the handleing dif between 2wd & 3wd I know on my bike 2wd was not really missed.

Bahnerman,

Don't worry about missing the 2wd. I had the same thoughts until I recently changed my 300 to 3wd/4wd. Best (and cheapest} mod I ever did. Wish I would've done it sooner now. Don't even miss the 2wd, and the benefits of 4wd are incredible.

As far as steering harder; only noticeable difference for me was on hardpack, in 4wd, just starting off and going real slow attempting a sharp turn.

I say GO FOR IT!!!

Good luck,
