I stopped at my local Polaris dealer today to look for a 2nd 4x4 atv. He had a used 1999 AC500 4x4 5-speed with 714miles on it. The atv looked like new. Asking $4500.
Just wanted a few opinions, is this a good deal? Is this a reliable atv? After reading many of the previous posts it sounds like this atv is very similar to the Suzuki 500 4x4. This same dealer also had a 1993 Kawasaki Bayou 4x4 for $2800 with 2002 miles, it had a speedo and odometer on it. It also looked like new....hmmm tough decisions.

What are you going to use it for?

Thats a GREAT PRICE!!!!!!! If you don't want/need the better ride, bigger racks, better ground clearance, water cooling, or the extra power than the 300 will be fine. But do you want to live with out them?

Sorry, I should have told you the Kawasaki is a 400 4x4 Bayou. It does have the liquid cooled engine. This will be a 2nd atv to go with the 2000 Polaris 425 Xpedition 5-speed I have now. I think they are both great buys at $2800 for the 1993 Kaw. 400 4x4 Bayou and $4500 for the 1999 Arctic cat 500 4x4, but I can't come home with both of them !! hmmm can I ?? Maybe I better talk to my banker about that one...
Will the Bayou keep up with the Polaris ?
Anyone know what the top speed is on a '93 Kaw. Bayou?
Both of these are shaft drive, liquid cooled, speedo's,and odometers, the AC. is newer and is a bit bigger... 10" ground clearance vrs. 7" . The AC, also has disc brakes front and rear vrs. Kaw's disc front/ drum rear set up. Well I guess I better make up my mind pretty fast cause they won't be there long at that price...

the bayou is not very fast but it has a lot of low end and pulls strong thru all 5 gears.but i've heard from a few owners that they had tranny problems.my 99 ac 500 with a winch, tax, title was $6032.00 so 4500 is a good deal.

Well the AC sounds like an OK deal. I personally like the AC 500. It has quite a bit of power. It is halfway fast and is a descent hill climber. I don't know very much about the other bikes so I can't tell you anything usefull about them.

If the Bayou is in good condition, then that is a great price and I would probably go with it unless you are in the mood to spend more money. Go to the Kawasaki forum and put Army Man in the title of your post. That will get his attention and he will tell you all about his bayou 400. He likes to make really long posts, so he should be able to cover all the bases for you. Army Man loves his 400, and for $2800, I would have got one if I was in the market. The older ones don't look as pretty but are still good bikes.
