I did hear that the 05 fenders are more resistant to showing scratches. Another plus for the '05 is that the racks are bigger. I still like the old metal footwells, though. I've never ridden the 500, and it may be a great engine, but the 650 is sweet throughout the power band. It has a great sound, too. It is easy to modulate as conditions warrant. Everyone talks about its big power, but it is very civilized, too. It does everything well.
I'm glad to hear that some folks have tested the new fenders on trees and that they seem to hold up. Cat seems to really know how to make tough machines. Mine have certainly proved that. Next year I hope to experience the 500 engine in the form of a TRV. I wonder if the 06 TRV will come with the new plastic?
