if you had 2 sets of tires...

What two would you pick? I was trying to get one good all around tire, but it sounds like that's just not practical? What qualities are needed for the different terrains listed:
hardpack
rock
snow
mud
trees
Right now I have the stock MTRs on my 05 650. They ride real well, but don't seem well suited to the 650 since the 2ply gives too much for the already heavy steering. Probably a great tire for something else like a grizzly or BF though. Definitely end up selling them if I get two sets.
From previous postings, sounds like some of the following are good options:
two tire solution:
itp 589s - good mud and reasonable trail tire. Not so great for trees/rocks/snow(thin/icy).
bighorns - i just really like the look of these things! sounds like they're good for rocks/trees/hardpack...possibly a good fit except for mud. not sure how they do in snow/ice.
itp atrs - sounds like a great trail tire, possibly good for rocks/trees/snow...terrible for mud?
mudhook xxtreme - these look sweet, but I haven't heard much on them. soundsl like a great mud/rock/trail tire for a possible one tire solution, but again, I haven't heard much.
one set compromise:
mudlites - basically good all around tire, but wears faster and isn't really the best in anything.
bear claws - reasonable all around tire. ok in everything and not great at anything.
I'd especially like to hear on the bighorns and mudhooks since I have little to go on with them.
thanks.

get the mudhooks xxtreme tires. they are awesome in the mud, just as good as the itp 589's. the big horns i thought sucked in the mud and seemed to slip on wet terrain. the atr's are probably the best in the rocks but the dirt hooks on my rancher work really well in rocks so it would only make sense that the mudhooks xxtreme's would work well to because its basically the same tire but with bigger treads.

Good question, and one I've been thinking about for a while too. I've got a Bi/Tri-claw set in 27" already so thats one set. If I was getting a mud tire, I'd still get the same thing. The second set it my problem. I would say bighorns or holeshots. At this point, I'm leaning toward bighorns, but don't know what size now. For me, I would be better off with a lightweight holeshot ATR as an all terrain tire, and keep the stock size due to the fun factor, but I may go 26 - 27 Bighorns and just forget about the acceleration drop with the taller heavier tire.
Good question though.
Good question though.
