Default 300 cam timing??

im having trouble setting the cam timing on a 99 300 2x4. my question is mainly on the flywheel. i have a manual from arctic and it tells me to make sure i have the lobes down and the marks on the the cam gear to be parrallel with the head mating surface. but it doesnt tell me how to make sure the flywheel/piston is in the right place. are there marks on the flywheel like on other quads? i rotated it but i didnt see any marks. thanks for any help

Should be at TDC or Zero (0) degrees. My 2001 manual says piston at TDC, that's clear up. The timing inspection plug is on the left side near the recoil starter. That's where you confirm you are at 0 degrees TDC and and not 360 degrees TDC. It's also where you check timing.

There should be 3 marks on the flywheel. TDC (0), idle timing mark (5 degrees) and max advance (35 degrees). The close together will be TDC and 5. Since the 5 mark is in the middle the TDC on should be opposite the 35 mark and closest to the 5 mark. Will look sort of like below;

I--------------I----I

35 5 0 or TDC

Ther won't be dashs on the flywheel but the forum won't leave the spaces in with out a character in there. But you get the idea. If not PM me you e-mail address and I will scan the pic from the book.

Bear,

Is the timing adjustable? If so, how (I don't have a manual)?

Thanks,

Jim
