Whats the best way to clean the belt houseing

Default Whats the best way to clean the belt houseing
I've got a 400 auto, the inside of the belt houseing (in and around the belt) is really gritty and dirty. Whats the best way to clean it out without screwing up something?

Brake cleaner. Has solvents and dries and leaves no residue.
