Tire Balancing
#1
My bike is footed with 27" Maxxis Mud Bugs mounted on ITP Delta rims. It starts shaking at 55 mph and gets worst till it max's out at 68mph. Has anyone gotten their tires balanced?
Contacted Maxxis and this is the responce I got.
"Thank you for contacting Maxxis. We have not had a problem before with balancing on Mud Bugs. Ususally, balancing problems appear at a certain speed and go away the higher the speed. Have you checked the rims? We recommend you go back to the dealer for dagnosis, if the Mud Bugs are found to be defective, they will be warrantied."
Will be contacting ITP!

This type of behavior is sort of normal and there have been debates on balancing. Try searching on the word balance or balancing and see what you come up with. Best I remember the general consensus was not to balance.
Good Luck!

Got a reply from ITP
"You should check you tires and rims most of the time even with our tires it is the tires and not the rims we would suggest that you check both and no the rims by there self will not need balancing. You should also remember that these are off road tires and will feel shake from any after market tire when doing 68 mph on the road, Atv tires are for offroad tires only."
ethernut - I did read some of the threads and I see what you mean on general consensus. Still, this shaking has to be hard on the front end, and a possible safety issue at 65 mph and over. I mean I ride between 55 and 60 quite a bit and I can't see this being normal at that speed, let alone 68 mph plus.
I will be trying my bugs on the stock rims and vise versa this weekend just to see how the bike reacts.

My question would be why would you install oversized large lugged tires the want to run them at high speed? That'a just not what they are designed for. This is like putting offroad jeep tires on an Indy car and wondering why the handles trashy. There are some street style treaded tires that would be perfect of going fast.

Personally, if you wanted to go 70MPH, you bought the wrong ATV. They make sport machines for going that fast, not some 700+ lb utility machine. Sure, the machine can go that fast, but just because a 300 lb man can wear a speedo, dosen't mean it's right.

No one needs to go 68 mph on any trail on this planet. It is very dangerous to others you might encounter. I don't really care if you hurt or kill yourself, but you have no right to endanger others with reckless speed on trails.
