Rear Fender Flares(mudflaps) TRV
#1
Just to let my fellow TRV owners know , Factory Arctic Cat front fender mudflap extentions will fit the back of your TRV. I installed 26" ITP 589s and ITP alum. wheels and my machine became a real mudslinger ( like riding a manure spreader) that was one of the things i really liked about the TRV was that you and your passenger could ride in mud a still stay somewhat clean. Just install them backwards compared to the fronts.

I've been knocking around the idea of the ITP wheels myself but I'm concerned with how much wider it makes the wheels. Wider is better - but not when your trying to get two machines side by side in a 8 foot wide trailer.
Have you measured the new width?
BTW Your loss of top end may have something to do with carb mixture in colder air and/or carburator icing.

2ridercat -
Got any pics of those wheels with the fender flairs?
BTW - I found a great handlebar mounted switch for the heated grips - off-low-high. Same as would be used for headlight for motorcycle. Works great so far. And it has a lower button originly used for "kill" but I thought a good aaarrrrooooggaaa horn would be fun.
Another switch on the rear for the pax grips will be next - next year when Santa returns. Did you get anywhere with AC when your grips shorted out? I think that was you.? maybe not.

2RiderCat, I know what you mean about the manure spreader effect with wider tires on the TRV. I took my 26inch ITP MudLItes and put them on my TRV recently and let my wife take me for a spin. I ended up with more mud on me than the TRV did!
I also am still waiting for that spring tool so I can install my Heavy Duty Springs on my TRV. I am hoping it improves the nasty habit of the front end wanting to roll uner itself.
If my wife wants a set of these tires for her TRV I guess I will have to look into the extended mud flaps as well. Thanks for the heads up, although I did not read it until after I was covered in mud.

I installed the front fender extensions today as suggested above. They do work but require a lot of re-engineering, cutting and drilling.
Now that I have a template it could be done in about an hour I would guess. If you order the extensions from AC be sure to order the bolts and blind nuts also.
1) At the bottom of the extension is a wider "flap" that needs to be cut off - just follow the edge straight down removing the excess.
2) Note the C shaped cutouts and tabs. If you pre-fit the extension into place you will see that they do not align correctly. The 3rd tab needs to be extended about 1 inch (same distance from the outside edge as the #2 C cuttout.
3) Replcate a 4th C cutout and tab the same distance away from the outside edge as the #2 and #3 cuttouts
Note: Note that the #3 and #4 tab center holes need to be moved down so they are the same distance from the outside edge as the #2 tab
4) On the back of the fender - Drill a hole 10 3/16" from the inside of fender just below the horizontal bend - 1 3/8" inch from the bottom
5) start by attaching the extension using the rear tab- tighten less than snug with the extension in place inbetween the fender front pieces
5) drill the #2 tab hole from inside fhe fender holding the tab snug aganst the fender and bolt together - it helps to pull the front of extension away from the fender to align the bolt - then replace
6) drill the #3 tab hole and bolt make sure you are holding the fender in place and the tab snugly agains the inside fender.
7) push the extension up into the front fender corner using pressure on the bottom end of the extension- drill and bolt the bottom end
8) drill and attach the 4th tab and bolt.
I used a drill press to drill out the bottoms of the C cuttouts
A sabre saw to create/extend the C cuttouts
Pliers to hold the blind nuts
electic screw drill with star driver for the bolts/screws
All of this makes more sense if your holding the extensions in your hand
Thats how I did it anyways
Edit - I put a picture on my photo page herein.

Whodatindamud Im not sure what you did wrong but i didnt modify anything to install mine!! Every thing lined up perfect. I didnt cut the lower flap off i wanted to try it first before modifying them and so far no problems. You did put them on backwards right??? Let me know!

Ok - I'm thinking you put them on the way they would fit the front - where it isnt going the full length of the fender.
1) I didn't like the extension not going the full length of the fender. It didn't protect my rear mounted gear like that and it looked "stubby"
2) I didn't see any reason to leave the flap dangle below the fender so I trimed the side of the flap off and moved the extension back far enought to wrap the entire rear fender.
It does look good like this!
