A/C 400 Oil Cooler Design Problem
I have a new ('04) Arctic Cat 400 & recently ran into a stick or something that caught the bottom corner of the oil cooler. The bottom corners of the oil cooler stick outside the frame by over an inch, a design flaw to me. The hit from the stick caused the cooler to tear open & dump all it's oil. Arctic Cat denies that they have a problem with the design. Has anyone else out there had a similar problem with their oil cooler? I can't believe I'm the only person this has happened to. Thanx, BigThicket

the first atv i bought (used 03 400i) had that happen to it ...Unknown to me of course, until after I bought it.When I took it in for warranty I got the whole story ,along with a bill for complete top end (approx $2100 CDN).He eventually settled out of court....;^)
On my wifes new 400 I made up a stainless steel guard to cover the gap at the bottom.never noticed it until my 500 was side by side. There is about a 1" gap at the bottom of the mesh on a 400 none on the 500.

and your point would be????
neither one of them like being punctured.my point is they both use the same screen, but the bottom tank on the 500 rad is larger than the 400 oil cooler.I am well aware that my 500 is liquid cooled, and my wifes 400 is oil cooled, as well as my previous 03 400 ...

My oil cooler wasn't punctured, it simply got hit on the lower corner (that should be protected) & pushed back about 1" causing a tear of a small nipple on the bottom of the cooler. That's my point, the cooler on the 400 isn't properly protected. Can I call you To explain my problem & discuss what happened with yours? I need some info if I'm going to be able to get A/C to behave responsibly. Thanks.
