Thats odd! What kind of belt are you running? I dont know if I would sand the sheaves at all. If I remember right they need to be clean and defect free, I think sanding would cause them to wear prematurely. But dont take my word for it. Just ask on arctichat. I would take out other shim and see what happens. Anew belt should be really tight with one shim though. Ckeck the part# on the belt and make sure it is 59011 - 0003.

I have had my '04 650 goin 72mph many times....(with a little wind help) but other than that it goes an average 68-69 top speed. I've heard if you install a heavier clutch spring in the 650s you will get way more speed off the line?? if i had that then i wouldnt only be able to smoke my buddies 05 grizz in top speed, but outta the hole as well.

hey weez440.
the clutch on my 700 is differant then on the 650 cat.
i have a friend that has a 04 650 cat and an 04 700 prarie and its like night and day.
the 700s is way better and we have never had a problem with ours.
the 650 is also geared higher.
the 700 has lower gears and is better on the trails because of the lower gears.
the limp mode problem with the kawi engines is with the cats only and is not a problem with there own models.
ac did somthing differant and fudged it up.
and as for sixfiftytwin69 doing 72 mph.
maybe in your dreams.
my 700 beats my buds 650 cat easy and my kawi wont go that fast.
my kawi will do maybe 65 if im lucky.

Hey Mudblaster, whats different as far as the clutch system? As far as I new it is the same on the 650 and prairie. I will be looking at it Tuesday when I put my new clutch springs in.

i am gonna take just really fine sandpaper just to basically take off the belt burn off the clutch a lil bit. and about limp mode mud if i am out in the middle of nowhere and get water in the clutch cover and limp mode kicks in i don't wanna have to limp home 20 miles with it in limp mode. and kawi did fudge up the belt deflections when they sent them over. if i used it as a gravel baby and never took it off the road and had stock tires on it then it would probably be fine but almost everyone that has the 650 put aftermarket tires on and every single person that put on bigger tires and even alot that didn't are having trouble with the belt deflection on the 04 650. think i will be getting an H1 next year either that or the prowler.

thanx for the help six but i already took care of my limp mode i put a dynatek cdi in it and never have to worry bout it again. well except when my cdi burnt out and i put my stock one in and the lil switch inside the clutch cover was tripped so i had to take that off and flip that. and i am sure the 650 cat and the 700 prarie have different clutching but i believe the 650 prarie has the exact same clutching as the cat does.
