Default 2000 Arctic Cat 250 2x2 no High Range

Hello all newbie here. I have had this 2000 Arctic Cat 2x2 for about 2 yrs and since I have had it the high range has not worked. When put into high range the lever will move into the high range position but when the throttle is hit it seems as somethins is jammed in the wheels I know its not but that the only way I can describe it. Like someone took a screwdrive and jammed it between the gears inside the case. But if I drop it back into low range it goes just fine. I read somewhere on the internet to someone that this had happend to before and I cannot find the post. Please help I cant stand this low range much longer.....

Welcome to the forum Jake. I would try the easiest thing to check first, adjusting the linkage. If your lucky, your not engaging all the way. If that don't do the trick, you may have a serious problem with the front diff. and you may have to take it to the dealer. Hope this helps.

If it was the front differential it would be there all the time, high or low range, besides I think he means 2X4 and doesn't have a front differential. I also suspect linkage, but you could have something broken on the high range side of the transmission.

Good catch Bear, I missed that one by a half mile because i read it so fast. I still hope it is just the linkage. Transmission problems can be very expensive.

Even if you are able to do the work yourself it still isn't cheap to do transmission work. Parts are very expensive.

There is a gear that runs on a splined spacer in the transmission, when the gear locks on the spacer you get exactly the problem you are describing. This can be fixed without pulling the engine. Need to pull off the side cover and check gears. Will have to look close because when the locks it will look like a gear the runs on a spline shaft.

Hey Jakesfast! Did you ever figure out your problem?

I was riding my 250 and the high range gears locked! My low range works fine!

Let me know what you found out. Hope fully it was just the linkage.

Not that I would reccomend this but my buddy had a similar problem and he fixed it by mistake . As he was rolling in low he rammed the shifter into high and something gave. It has worked ever since! (Still wouldnt reccomend because it could cause more serious damage)
