I am less than a week away from buying a set of 26" tires. The problem is as the time draws near I am having second thoughts about the Mud Bugs. I have heard that the Bearclaws ride much better than the Bugs. I like to play in the mud but most of my time is on firm ground and some rocks. The other thing I will for sure need is snow traction. Does anyone have any experiance with either of these tires in the snow. The main reason for the change is better traction in the mud and better ground clearance. I don't like the 489,s in the mud they suck.

If you are going 26", I think the Bugs are the best tire out there for that size. Good ride, good tread pattern. If you move up to 27", you have a few different questions that come into play, but for 26", I don't think you can beat the Mud Bugs.

I disagree, I find that Titian 589s are a much better tire than the Mud Bugs. They ride better and seem to clean out better also.

Go with the 589s and you will be VERY HAPPY.

Andy, thanks for the response. Do you know which tire is lighter and what the actual O.D. of the tire is. I am leaning towards the Bugs, but none of the local dealers know anything about sizes etc.

Hey Boner, thanks for the response, the Titans look as aggresive as the Bugs but have a more rounded profile. How will the profile work in the mud. Also are Titans the same O.D. as the Bugs and what is the weight. I respect both of the comments you and Andy made but a liitle more info on your response would be helpfull.

Cheers Jim

Hey, I found this site at the Maxxix home page, hope it helps. Their main page is www.maxxistires.com.

I think the outside diameter was right around 25.3" or so on the 26", but this chart does have the actual weight marked, hope it helps.

There was a guy in the Drivetrain/suspension/tires forum the other day that said that 589's sucked in mud. He was looking at Bugs I think. You might go check out that thread and see what you can come up with.

Another good tire in this category is the Goodyear Mudrunner. They make the size, but I think they are a bit pricey. From what I can tell, they are on par with the Bugs.

The Rounder profile allows them to ride a good bit better on hard pack.

I believe the Mud Bugs are sligly lighter and have a 6ply construction compared to the 589s 4 ply. The Mud Bugs seem to be SLIGHLY smaller than other tires of the same sizeing, that includes the 589s.
