454 shock help
Shouldbeworking,
I seem to remember reading someplace where a fella took the shock and removed the spring and took it to an auto parts store and purchased a shock of the same length. I don't think it ever said what it was. Probably cheaper this way.
I have seen replacement shocks for AC 400 and AC 500 that usually run about $200 each. Bit this usually includes the springs and an adjustment wrench. I think it would be cheaper to replace just the shock but I have discovered that due to the weight of the machine the spring gets weak over time. Following the suggetion of WhoDatintheMud, I replaced my springs with HD springs from Highlifter.com. They are excellent and cost about $150 with shipping for all 4 springs and a tool to install the springs and took about 1 hour to install. Really added new life to the old shocks.
If your shock itself is not leaking you might want to look at replacing just the springs.
Hope this helps SJ

I remember reading in an ATV magazine about a shock made by Progressive Suspension that is specifically designed for utility ATV's. It adds 1 inch to your ground clearence and comes with springs already attached that are supposed to be really good.
I did a search on internet and only found them for a 98-99 Suzuki King Quad and not an AC. But I believe its the same or similar to a 98 AC. They were fairly expensive at about $200 each.
The shocks and spring kits can be found at Highlifter.com as well but no shocks are listed for AC but they have them for Suzuki. I Think you would need to remove you shock and measure it and call their customer service or email them to see if the suzuki ones would fit.
I think the stock AC shocks are about $90 new with springs.
You may be able to get something just as good as stock from an auto parts store if you take the AC stock shock in with you and it would cost you less money. They make them that small for some import cars.
