Well it would make sense if the smaller 450 has less power, but it actually has more than the Rubicon. Just ask TXDOC2@aol.com-- he e-mailed Honda and got the Horsepower numbers.

Another reason the 450 could not turn the tires in 2nd was cause of the the massive traction of the vamps. If he could turn them in 1st gear and still not pull me with his huge traction advantage, then there is NO WAY he could have done it with factory tires.

Where was it measured? The 500 probably has 22hp at the rear wheels and the 450 was probably measured at the crank. Check out Dynojet's rear wheel hp for the 450. A far cry from 24 for sure. 22 seems high for the 500 at rear wheel as well though. Other 500's don't even touch that figure, so who knows. Its still real hard for me to believe that the 450 has more power than the 500. They are giving up 66cc's there. No way.

Well YOUR OWN 493 cc motor gives 102cc's to a Grizzly, yet look at which one has more torque?

The 4.7 engine in my dad's Dakota makes 5 more horsepower than his old 5.2 in his Ram.

The 2.4 liter motor in the Honda S 2000 makes 240 hp while a 4.3 liter chevy makes 190 hp.

It's all in how the motor is tuned, built, and other small little things.

Its a bit different when you compare 4700 cc's to 5900cc's. There is just a little more room for tuning there. Sure the 600 Griz is tuned for a bit less torque, but the HP is a lot more than the AC has. I also can't see the 450 having 24hp when other quads in that range don't have that much. Its not exactly the most powerful thing out there.

You are still talking about a motor almost half the size making about 25% more horsepower.

I agree. The same company made the machines, why would they put less *****'s in the Rubicom? That sounds crazy. Yeh, a chevy may have more horse power than a dodge, put those are two different companies, with two differet engines. Where dealing with the same company.

I will call my good friend the dealer and ask him. Ill ley you know what he says. Im not douting it out, the 450 may have more horse.

Copied this post from Mohavemike on the *********.com forum 'cause I liked his sense of humour:

I just came across this debate over the Polaris sport 500 and the Rubicon. I heard all the stories about how the Ruby is more reliable, but the Polaris has slightly better performance. And I also heard that thing about a quad being "bulletproof". So I decided to do a little experiment.
I got the new Remington Model 700 rifle my wife bought me for my birthday. It's a 300 Ultra Magnum. Then I took my new Rubicon and parked it right next to my neighbor's Polaris Sport 500 HO. I stood off to the side and fired one shot to see if it would go through both of them. Well, the bullet went through both sides of the Ruby's gas tank, and hit the cylinder head of the Polaris, and cracked it, but it didn't come out the other side. Then I went around to the other side and fired one shot which went through both sides of the Polaris gas tank, and it hit the engine of my Ruby, and it bounced off! Then I got onto the Ruby and cranked it, and it started right up! But the sonofa##### ran out of gas after only about 100 yards. So much for being bulletproof....I guess the bottom line is, if you want bulletproof, buy an M-1A1 Abrams tank. But those suckers are expensive, and it takes all kinds of paperwork and red tape to get one. And if all that isn't bad enough, my cranky neighbor got all pissed off and now he's got this attitude...he runs back into his house every time I come outside.
My next experiment is to buy 1000 Rubicons and 1000 Polaris Sports and run the crap out of them, and see how many maintenance problems pop up. But I gotta wait till payday, I'm a little short on cash right now after posting bail to get out of jail........

Hope this helps

(Thanks Mohavemike)

So your Cat can pull more? I would gladly choose a Rubicon over an ugly Cat. no matter what power or weight.

Either way you go, any 4x4 would be overkill in kansas anyway. Flat land and cow chips, thats about it.
