I was just wondering if a Cat 500 would out pull honda's 500. Im talking hooking up hitch to hitch. Thanks for the help. Both atv's are bone stock

Hard to tell. I don't see where the AC gives up anything to the Honda in that category though. Plus it has they weight advantage, though its only 50lbs or so. That would be a good test. The Honda differential is supposed to be better than most limited slips, but they still have their downsides to others. Maybe the mythical 2001 AC diff. would help it out. (I doubt it)

I will say this, I think the AC would hold its own. Can't see any advantage for Honda in this one.

 

I was challenged to a Hitch to hitch pull off by a Rubicon owner, as soon as I said "When and where" he backed off. So that REALY sucks. It doesn't say anything about the Honda, but it does say that the owner is all talk with nothing to back it up.

PS. There was an old topic in the Honda forum about a Rubicon competing in a sled pull of vs an Arctic Cat 500 Auto. The Cat almost had a full 300 ft pull but the Rubicon has a pull of less than 100 ft if I remeber, keep that in mind.

 

i dont rember what site it was, but they had a list on what atvs could pull. they had this device that was hooked up to the hitch and to a stationary object to see what they would pull intill they spun out. I dont know what surface it was on, but i know that the Honda 450 could out pull a Suzuki 500. Keeping that in mind, the Rubicon could beat the 450, and i think it would be a tossup on the Cat and Suzuki.

 

I guess I don't understand why "pulling" ability means anything. To me, ride comfort and reliabilty are the number one factors of a quad. Pure power is nice but has anyone ever found somewhere a 300cc machine couldn't go? Granted for pure mud riding a machine with a bigger displacement can turn oversize tires easier, but for everyday trail riding with a mix of rocks, mud, hills, ruts, ect; an everyday 300 trx or an AC 300 would do just as good, if not better than a larger machine. Just my .02 cents.

 

I have to agree totally with Foreman4x4 here, but I am having a lot of trouble believing that the 450 will outpull the 500 Suzuki. There is a weight difference there, and a big torque difference that kind of makes that one hard to swallow.

A good one would be the Diesel polaris and the Traxter. Both are a couple of fat *** quads with good differentials and a lot of power.

 

Well since an Arctic Cat 300 4x4 can pull a 450s(both totally stock, test was done on an asphalt road), I don't think the 450 has a chance against a Suzuki 500.

 

I agree with Foreman4x4 to a point; pulling isn't everything for most people, and there are a lot of variables to measuring it. BUT, When you've got a weeks worth of camping/hunting gear, spare gas, etc. and 1000 pounds of moose meat in your trailer and have to pull it out through deep mud, creeks and steep hills, pulling power (and true 4wd traction) can make or break your hunting trip.

 

Honda's pull very poorly in competition. We had local atv pulls with the sled and the AC 500 out pulled every Honda there. I would put my money on the Cat for sure.

 

I would like to see this pull off. I don't see where the AC has any advantage over the Honda. Still have my doubts about the Hondamatic tranny under heavy load.
