Default Clunk when shifting

Ola, people's! My husband and I were blessed enough to pick up a couple new machines in February, and in the researching process, I ran across the AC 250 2x4. Now, other than my issues with my dealer telling me they didn't make them in 4x4 (which I found out 2 weeks later, they do), and the clunk when shifting, I am jazzed with this little girl, and aptly named her *Miss Daisy* (driving Miss Daisy). At any rate, When I got on her at the dealership, I took her for a short cruise, and lost reverse. They adjusted it, and we took it home. It clunked thereafter, so we took it back in for adjustment, and lo-and behold, it's clunking again! There is also play in the shift linkage on the transmission shaft, and though the beast is still under warranty, I don't have a whole lot of faith in my dealer! So, anyone have any ideas, or have the same issues? I keep reading about the smooth shifting, and am envious!!!! I've even put it in gear and rocked it to get it to click in, but the shifting is still rough. Now, this doesn't happen all the time, and that's what's weird.

Okay, even with that said, I LOVE this machine! We live in Alaska, and the first 300 miles put on the machine were on ice and snow, and it's so weird driving on the dirt! The mud is awesome! My husband has a 4x4 honda, and my little Daisy goes almost everywhere his does.

So, if anyone has any ideas about the clunking, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks, and HAPPY TRAILS!!!

Welcome to the Forum. In 2006 they totally redid the 250's. They no longer offer them in 4x4. You will need a 2005 model or older for that. However the 2006 250's have been good so far... I have no idea about your Clunk.

I used to live in Dillingham, AK! We moved away about 8 months ago to come back to MN.

Holy Cow! Dillingham? How fun.

Well, when I asked the dealer if they made the 250 in 4x4, he could have told me they did, for the previous year, but he didn't. I may have bought one. I dunno. But, all that aside, I've seen a few complaints online about the *rough* shifting, so thought someone here may have an idea of what's going on. We are going to take it into the dealer and have them fix it. Otherwise, perhaps a new machine is in order, from the company, that doesn't clunk when shifting from Reverse to Drive and so on and so forth. And I am easy on the throttle, too, but it still does it. It's also done it when I was going down a short, slight incline, let off the gas, and put a wee bit on the throttle at the bottom and it clunked.

Thands for the chat. Will continue to check back and see if there is anyone else out there who is having the same issue and comes across this board.

Blessings!

A high idle speed could cause this problem. These machines are basicly a Kymco machine and are so new here that only a few people have them. The 2005 and previous 250 had a Suzuki engine in a nice sized machine with 4 wheel independent suspension. A much better machine in my opinion. My wife rides a 2001 model and loves it.
