Dottie,
I am not sure about the can-am. But my 2003 500 TRV has nearly 6400miles and is going strong. It hauls, works and plays hard enough for me and my wife.
Typical load is around 1000 pounds (on a tandem axle trailer) with two adultsand gear on the machine. It has gone through flowing water up to the seat and some mud with this load. It has had 25 inch and 26 inch ITP mud lites during nearly all these miles with no belt issues.
If I had to get another I would get the TRV 650.
I would say the only two downsides to the TRV are rack space and the stock tires.
On a side note. I am not sure all the quirks are worked out of fuel injection yet. Call me old school, but I think it gives the machine too many computerized parts that can fail in the back country and possibly leave you stranded with out the proper computer to diagnose the problem. Then again so could a carburated machine but at least you would not need a computer to fix it!
Ride them both and get the one YOU like and YOU think will be the best use of your $.
Hope this helps.

Rode with a couple of guys last winter... me on my 650V2, a guy on a KingQuad & another a Bomb 800. Off a basic little jump into a puddle the Bomb blew one tire off the rim & folded the rear suspension up into the fender & cracked the plastic. He limped home & took it the the dealer while the rest of us played all day.
There are dozens of stories on the net about the Bombs breaking. Some under some pretty easy condiions & some under some harsh conditions. But if the Cat & the KingQuad will take it, so should the Bomb.

go for the AC. the can-am just arent a good machine as of yet, weak frame, engine blowing up, everything just seems to be going wrong. i hear of nothing with arctic cat, plus all of my family and me own one without any problems. good enough reason for me.

OMG.... a little jump into a puddle..... give me a friggin break!!!!!!! This "little" jump blew a tire and wrecked the suspension -- whatever!!! These machines rock at Baja and many other off road races but this one falls victim to a puddle LOL!!!!

if i were you i would buy the TRV, and since they only have 10" of ground clearance i would buy a 2" lift kit to catch up to the rest of the arctic cats and then toss on some bigger tires. then you would have a hell of a beast.

What a load, this is one of the most biased and unobjective posts I've ever read. I've owned three different Bombardier ATV's and the only problems were rider/owner related, flat tires, battery connections etc...flat tires, flat tires. I had an Outlander 330 that I rolled over 20 feet, thing looked totaled, once I fixed the handlebars, plastic etc.......kept riding never missed a beat. My DS 650 has been flipped over AND once rolled down a trail and into a tree.....bent handlebars was the only damage.
Rotax engines with a penchant for blowing up? TOTAL BS.
I don't own nor have I ridden an AC(well snowmobile) so I'm certainely not going to sit here and judge them, you don't own a Can-AM/BRP, and I'm betting you've probably never ridden one so I'd suggest you keeping your opinons and "things you've heard" to yourself and stick to the facts.
This BRAND BASHING is juvenile and pointless.

Raidermike 67, I agree that brand bashing is juvenile and pointless, and it unfortunately goes on in most forums to some extent. But I'm curious, you've got one guy in particular, on the same thread in the Can Am section, who has taken brand bashing and childish posts to a new level, and he has done it over and over in the same thread, and yet not one word from you. How come?

Because I generally skip over what sounds like BS.
It's one thing to be objective when providing an opinion, but its a totally different thing when a person is SO biased they can't see through his own rose colored glasses. \
There are people on Honda Rincons that will NEVER consider another brand. I own a Rincon, nice machine (mainly got it as a backup and for a lady friend to ride since its tame and easy to operate) but it doesn't even come close to touching my Outlander yet there are a LOT of Rincon owners who would immediately jump all over a statement like this.
I don't know how many posts I've read where some numbskull is rambling on about "how he heard Bombardier break down all the time, how they are cheaply built etc...." You think this is a very well read person? Sorry, but I just can't let comments like that go without a response. IF someone wants to profess their ignorance I'll be glad to highlight their ignorant remarks.
