Belt drive on a 500 with an incurable oil leak
Hi All,
I have been having a heck of a time with my 02 500 cat auto I am hoping someone can shed some light on.
I somehow keep managing to blow out the seal on the primary (3402-487). Now after the first time or two more and more related parts have been replaced, but still I manage to blow it out, after about 60-70 miles on a new seal.
I have had replaced the bearing on the clutchhousing(3402-490), the bearing on the engine side (3402-489), the spacer (3402-486), oring (3423-353). With all this done, the shaft before putting the clutch cover back on seems good and tight, free from wiggle.
And yet it still manages to start leaking. The only conclusions I have been able to draw is that it seems to take 60-70 miles and running the engine solo between 30-40 miles per hour.
Does anybody have any ideas?

Your crankshaft may have a slight wobble, just enough to take out the seal in a hurry. The end of the crank where the seal makes contact with the output shaft may have a spur or is rough and needs to be polished. Does the engine have a bad vibration? If so, I think your crank shaft is not true or maybe the clutch is way out of balance.

Using the below diagram I am not sure what you mean. I have no vibration at all, it just purrs

The seal(3402-485) makes contact with that spacer(3402-486), which has been replaced
I guess the wet clutch could be out of balance I never gave that much consideration yet. With the clutch shaft attached to the wet clutch housing, I am having trouble visualizing a crank problem with no vibration issue. I guess the casing on the wet clutch housing could be out of round as well.
I was wondering about the clutch shaft itself(3402-485), however if that was bent at all the spacer wouldn't slide up on it very well.
