Wait until you get about 300 - 500 miles on that thing. The 400 really needs to be broken in before you get any power. After you have 500 miles on it, and you still want more, you can do a lot with jets, clutch, pipe, etc, or trade it in on a 500 or 650

I do not believe they make a bunch of aftermarket mods for the 400. I am in need of my 3rd muffler as they rust rather fast where I ride and I have been unable to get a stainless steel aftermarket one that bolts on with out modifications to the bolts or muffler. Which has the same or approximate noise level as stock.
If its an Auto you can put a chutch kit into it to make the clutch engage earlier.
You can do a muffler mod. Involves cutting open the muffler and removing baffles. Thus, making it louder thereby giving the IMPRESSION of more power. However, the increase in power by doing this I believe is negligable but the noise and fuel consumption will be effected.
You can re-jet the carborator. If you do the muffler mod you will almost definitely need to do this as well. If you go to a larger jet to get more power expect fuel consumption to go up.
For some machines they made a power CDI. But, I do not think one is made for the 400.
As Catterman suggested, I also would not reccomend making any changes until it has around 500 to 800 miles on it. I noticed my 400 really wake up around 800 mile mark.
I think the 400 AC is geared lower than most other 400's. It is more a utility vehicle than sport.

My grandfather has a 650H1 and while it has tremendous low-end grunt and power its top-end leaves a little to be desired.
Both machines have just 200 miles on them so I'm hoping the break in does them well.

You can find lots of dress up parts. Mods are a joke. Filter maybe a jet kit but you will get nothing for the money invested. Saying that I love my Cat just fine and if you think about it.....the speed trade off is your the one pulling the other 400's you mentioned out of the tuff stuff were the 400 Cat rules ;-)

I was at my dealer this morning and the Service Manager tells me Speedwerxs is working on hop up parts for the 400. Someone finally figured out the biggest seller AC makes might be a good thing to build after market stuff for.

My only complaint about our 400's would be jetting for my area. I've heard from my dealer that Cats are jetted for sea level. We live at 5000 feet (and they work just fine) but the times we've gone over 8000 feet (and up to 9500) there is serious power loss. I was taking a friend up to a favorite mountain top (for the view, of course) and I was slowly slowing down as we approached the top of the road. His fuel injected unit was just chugging along while I was slowly dying on the vine. I found if I stopped for a moment, then started fresh, I could gain quite a bit of additional speed. But shortly, I'd be slowing down again. I'm assuming I need to lean these machines out a bit. They're in serious need of more air and less fuel.
