AC 300, AC 400, or Honda Rancher 350 manual shift?
#21
My dad has a AC 400 4x4 that I ride a lot with my best friend (ty) who hs a rancher 350. The Rancher is quicker but the AC has more tourque and High and Low range which would be good for pushing the Plow. Ty wishes that his Rancher had High and low range(which the Cat has), and Semi-independent Rear Suspention(which the Cat has). I really like the rancher and have nothing against them cause the are good bikes and a blast to ride but they are not very reliable. Ty has already had to have a new transmition put in it the electric shift replaced and a new FRAME. And the bike is not even a year old.

I would never buy another utility quad without low range. My Honda 300 has been a good quad but I am on my third clutch. Low gear is low and slow, second gear is too high. Low range was a big factor when I went to purchase another quad.

have you considered the Honda Foreman 400 4x4 manual shift??it's a great workhorse...and is one of the most reliablest atv ever...it's a 395cc motor in it....arctic cats are a bit over weight...the honda foreman 400 is only 533lbs...

Maybe so and maybe NOT. The 400 Foreman is a waste of money and should thus be discontinued.
Don't get me wrong, it was a great quad, but Honda surrounded it with better quad in the same price range. For a fraction more, you can get the 450 foreman which is a vast improvement in all areas over the 400. For a bit less, you can go with the Rancher which will smoke the 400 and will turn a LOT tighter. It won't have the same torque, but the 400 wasn't exactly the king of that anyway. Foreman 400 had a **** poor suspension as well. Much like that of a Bayou 400. (and the Suzuki 500 while we're on the subject)
Anyone who is ever considering a Foreman 400 should just save money for an extra month and get a 450. Why they still continue to sell 400's amazes me to this day. At least lower the price down or something. That or change it up like Yamaha did with the Kodiak. Kodiak is still a 400 but it is unlike both that surround it because its automatic, and has full disc brakes and a good suspension. It has features that bikes on both ends lack so its not like you are buying just a more expensive big bear or a less expensive Grizzly.

No, I never considered the Foreman 400. Yes, it may be reliable and a great workhorse, but for that amount of money that they want for it, I would be better off buying a Kodiak, or a 450s Foreman. I think I would be better off with the Rancher, in that case. As for the weight, that doesn't bother me much. Its nice to have a little more weight when your pushing a plow anyway. As for loading and unloading, that won't be a problem either, as I have a tilt snowmobile trailer. But, unfortunately I won't be buying too soon, until I figure out if my job security at work is safe.
