I recently had to replace a axle on my 05 500 4x4 and i went with the gorilla axle. i only have one problem i dont know what the spec is for the spindle nut. the first time i just got it snug and after a while of riding it backed off and ruint the nut. i just purchased a new hub, rotor and spindle nut and was wonderig if anyone knew the spec for the spindle nut.
thanks for your time

Yes i think i didnt get it tight enough when i did it the first time and it was wobblin and broke the carter pin. and it messed up the thread on the nut so i tried to find a nut that would fit at a local autoparts store. Since i was out of town riding at a park and i had paid 50 bucks to ride for five minutes i was pretty determind to get my 50 bucks out of it.. lol
that is 70 inch pounds?

I do not use the torque specs here.
I tighten the nut until the tire will not spin freely without dragging, then I back the nut off to the next notch that allows me to put the pin through. Doing this as long long a I do not reuse the pins, I hve not had any problems. If you reused the pin it could have sheared off from being bent/rebent and allowed the nut to back off some. Reusing the pins is not a good idea especially since they are so cheap.
If you purchased a new hub did you install new race and bearings in the hub? If race/bearings are bad you should not reuse them either?

the pin is not the reason, you had the issue, i have reused axle pins on everything from cars to buses with 0 problems, there is no huge amount of torque on them hell half the time the pin isn't even touching the castle nut, i would look closer, the cotter pin is not your issue

The shop Manual says that it is 75 ft/lbs front and rear for the 400 and 500 manuals. But 75 ft/lbs for the front and 125 ft/lbs on the rear for the 400, 500 Autos and the 650 H1 and the V-2. Which does make a lot of sense but hey what do I know.
