Default 2004 650V2 brake question

First of all I'm new to the forum and so far I like what I've read!
I recently bought a 2004 650 V2. The brakes SUCK just as all of you have said. Does anyone know if I can use a master cylinder setup from a 2006 650? I don't mind buying it if it will bolt on and work. Thanks for your assistance

Brian

Were the brakes "Burnished"? If not, that's the problem. If the pads have been replaced the brakes need to be reburnished. My 2005 400 has great brakes, even the foot brake will lock up the rears. Of course you can upgrade your brakes.

Not sure if they were burnished or not since I bought it used. It seems as if the master cylinder will not even build enuf pressure to move the piston in the rear caliper. I have adjusted the linkage as well. I even took the piston out of the master cylinder and lubed the piston and reassembled. I'm getting no movement out of the rear caliper

The newer one should just bolt right on. I would also suggest getting new brake pads at that point and then brake them in right. Then you will have great stopping power.

So there would be no problems with the newer master cylinder? I know it is completely different and has a remote reservoir. The caliper is also different. Is there a good place to buy those parts at a decent price. Thanks for your help.

i got the same machine and mine were burnished and i got a lil over 2000 miles on mine and i gotta put new brake pads in this spring. if i am driving at 30 mph i can just barely pull in the hand brake and it floats back and forth and i got a rattling coming from my front brake. i looked and the pads are getting a lil thin not horribly but i am not gonna take the chance of brake failure by doing a lil basic maintanance. but when they were brand new it would almost flip me over the handlebars now i feel them being a lil mushy.

Sounds like you have a warpped rotor on one of the front wheels to have pulsing in the brake lever and the noise from the front end.
