usually if your battery is dead it will have some juice left in it but not enough to crank it over. so what i would do in this situation is hit the starter button and pull the rewind at the same time. i used to do this all the time on my lil 250 suzuki when i was a kid. i think that is probably the only reason they would put a pull start on a 650 is for that situation. oh and it works great if someone else is with so they can hit the starter button for you of corse.

 

There should've put a kick starter on everything over a 250cc engine !
