The speedrack was a big plus for me also. Ive never had so much confidence in knowing i have EVERYTHING i need to survive in the woods for a week strapped right to my quad! The Arctic Cat is also a very durable, strong atv

jsikodiak,
I have an 06 400 auto. Let me tell you, I am extremely pleased with it. The machine is absolutely awesome. I've got about 260 miles on it and the engine is starting to really wake up. Also, I swapped out the stock tires for some mudlite xl's. That improved the handling of it a lot. Don't worry, you got a good machine. There's your pep talk, now go ride.

I have the 06 400 and haven't had any issues. I have about 600 miles on it and the engine really got stronger around the 500 mile mark. It's not the fastest quad in the 400 range, but with the ground clearance and low end power, I can get through mud that 500+cc's get stuck in. I even got through a mud hole last week that a 660 Grizzly got stuck in . You'll be happy with it...especially when it breaks in.

just be careful going up hills my 03 500 did not like the long or steep hills
the front end is light on them and the rear end likes to squat then the front comes up and if your not on the ball it will flip.
i found putting a storage box on the front and leaning as far forword as i could get seemed to help alot.
and i had my shocks at the stiffest setting.
and if you plan to put bigger tires on it do not go any bigger then 26" or you will have axel troubles.
i know because i put 28" gators on mine and went through 3 axels and a front diff.
and that was in 2800 miles and 1 year of riding.

Your ATV has almost nothing in common with a 03 500. You have stronger axles, better springs, and a different body style. The one thing the 400 needs is time for the engine to brake in. WHen I had my 400 it took 300 miles, and at 500 it was even stronger. If you plan to keep the ATV forever, I suggest changing the oil at 25 miles, then again at 100. When you change it at 100 put in some synthetic. I use Amsoil and love it. Lots of good ones out there but just make sure your oil is safe for a "wet clutch".
Good luck and your new 400 will last you 20+ years if you want it to.
