What's the deal with some people saying ACs aren't fast?????

Well my 400 did 75mph down a 25 degree incline with a 30mph tail wind and my neighbors husband chasing me with a shotgun - and I did that while putting my shoes back on.....

I'm sorry my speedometer said 72. I guess I had a tough time reading the BIG DIGITAL DISPLAY that said 72. I was riding with a friend and he was on a Honda Recon and he wanted to see what his top speed was, so, I was driving beside him and he got up to 43 before he motioned to me that that was all he had. I then just wondered what my top speed was (because I had no idea. I didn't by this bike for speed so I didn't look into the top speed of it) anyway, I punched it and got it up to 72MPH. I just thought that was commen for all AC 500s. I really had no idea that all AC owners weren't expieriencing the same speed. That is why I asked the question I did above. I was just courious why so many people would say ACs weren't fast when mine (and all others so I thought) were. Anyway, forgive me for experiencing something on my own bike that I guess you all haven't experienced. I really had no idea that the top speed of the AC was well under 70. All I know is mine will go that fast. I really don't appreciate being called a liar though. I guess that is just how people are these days though, since someone else experienced something that they have not, then that person MUST be a liar. I appreciate those of you (very few allbeit) that replied with a little class. You can trust that I will not be contributing to this site again. I have owned an ATV since my first year out of college and I am a memeber of 8 other fourms and you can trust I will not be back on this one! Hope you all have fun and be safe.

ArcArcher,
I am sorry that you have felt offended and I certainly do appologize if I have offended you, I think that most of us here just was having a little fun with this. I am a tease and like to poke a little fun, not to offend you but just to kid around.
I will say this, the 500 has enough power to move a 700 lb machine 70mph with the right gearing. Quite possibly your belt may be a tad longer allowing a taller gear ratio, your springs in the clutching system could be such to allow the same, your tires could play into it, there could be a minor error in the speedo etc. I guess that it certainly is not impossible, it is just not the average or norm with most. But NOT impossible.
Personally I don't want you to leave the forum. Stick around, some of us do have some fun and I certainly welcome you. I may tease you on occasion but it is in fun. Again if I have offended you then I appologize.

The fact remains that a stock 500 doesn't go 70mph, not even close. That leaves two logical possibilities: either you are lying, or your speedometer is WAY off. I'm not saying these speedos are accurate, but 15ish mph seems like a VERY large miscalibration, so logic points to the first solution. Couple that with the fact that your buddies Recon topped at 43, (sounds about right) and we can assume a reasonably accurate speedo. Sorry, but the story reeks of embellishment.

Other than speed I think AC has some good stuff. I can tell you a TRUE story. A Honda Rubicon ran out of gas, they were riding 2-up and I was riding 2-up and towed the Honda home. Now go figure a total weight of about 1800lbs of machines and people and my little 400-376cc managed to get over 35mph and approaching toward 40mph while towing. To me that says alot for AC, the ability to do hard work and tow and having good solid mid-range power to get jobs done. Couple that with 12 inches of ground clearance and 10 inches of wheel travel, and the ability to articulate the rough stuff and I would say that AC gives you a pretty good bang for your bucks. A race machine - NO, a work horse - YES.....
