Default 03 400 tire rubbing problem

Oledad,

I run 26 inch mudlites (26x10x12AT front, 26x12x12XL rear) on both of my machines and I have had zero tire rubbing problems even when one tire went flat. With the room these bikes have inthe wheel area I am having trouble with the idea that a bad shock bushing would cause enough tire movement to cause tire rub.

What about a bent steering comonent? Tire alignment? I could see it getting close if the upper and lower shock bushing were totally gone.

Are your Mudlites the AT or the XL model? It effects tread depth. My XL's are the older 1 1/8 inch tread depth when new. They are supposed to have a new 25 inch XL model with 3/4 inch tread. That I have read a couple of good reviews about.

May want to check wheel alighment (1/8 inch toe in) and steering components I you haven't already.

26x10 mudlte XLs, front end and componets are perfect, it only has 360 miles on it, the guy I had bought it from rode 100 miles with no rub, my son rode it 15 and it chewed up the edge of the inner cleats. Only thing I can tell is in full extension it rubs when turned as tight as you can go to the right. Top shock bushings are fine.

I think the AT has a smaller lug than the XL? so that little difference, along with the bad shock bushings could be the culprit. I do know they are easy to replace, as I have changed mine already.

I took my shock to the auto parts store and got ones for a car, don't remember which one. The new ones have lasted 3 years. Remove the top/bottom shock bolts, pryout the old, clean metal shock surface with sand paper, lightly grease and squeeze in new grommets.

I am thinking that there is something on the steering column that is a turn stop? Limits how far the steering will go from all full left to full right. I do not know if it its adjustable or bent?. I will have to look at mine tonight.

Course, you could just blame it all on your son and not let him ride it anymore.

i think i know what ur talkin about. mine does the same thing, and its on the right front. when i turn to the left the tire seems to lean out. if i go to the right it leans inward. almost like it hyper extended somehow (if that makes sense). now mine dont rub but it comes alot closer than the other side(cant even put my finger between the shock and tire) and when im riding trials it get a little swirly, more than it did new. i just cant figure it out. unless someone bent or rolled it when i wasnt around . well my friend rolled it once but it was like that before he rolled it. he just made it worse.lol , he just bent the a-arm mount so i cut it,then welded it back together. hope ya find the answer!
