As an ATV rider who rides primarily on public land I feel we need GW to appoint people, if not friendly, at least not against our favorite ATVing pleasures. The current Sec. of Interior (bruce babbitt) was against us 100%. Now we have a Republican President but we may have a virtual Babbitt clone on our hands as his replacment.
ALERT!!! Without IMMEDIATE action, we will lose the Secretary of the Interior to a Democrat who supported Gore for President. Unless we can stop him, on Tuesday, President Bush will announce that Mike Sullivan, past Governor of Wyoming as the next Secretary of the Interior. Governor Sullivan is a Democrat who supported Gore for President.
Although conservative for a democrat, Sullivan is likely to keep many of Babbitt's appointees in Interior. For example, Sullivan is likely to appoint fellow democrat Karpan as Chief of Staff. Kathy is a very liberal democrat who currently serves as Babbitt's Director of Office of Surface Mining. The point of electing Bush was to get the Babbitt crowd OUT of Interior, not keep them there.
The next on the Interior Secretary short list is Senator Ben Nighthorse Campbell from Colorado, Senator Craig Thomas from Wyoming and Senator Slade Gorton from Washington. Any of these three would be wonderful Interior Secretaries and would get rid of the current Babbitt appointments. Tell the Bush/Cheney that Republicans elected Bush and a
Republican should be Secretary of the Interior.
