Default 2 stroke for the 4x4.

Do you think AC will develop a 2 stroke in the 400-500 class for the 4x4's?

Makes sense to me if they did. More power, more effecent, 100 less parts in the engine, less maintainance, lighter. We have the technonogy now to meet EPA emissions.

If they had a 400 2 stroke in a 4x4 I would buy one.

Personally I am a 2 smoke fan , I have an old 250r I ride the crap out of. But the new four strokes really run and are less maintenance , so who wkows , I think the 2 smoke days are over.

You could be right, but what Evenrude did with the E-tech outboard, is just short of amazing. Evenrude is tied in with Bomardiere (Can-Am), they just may do something with the 2 stroke in a 4x4. If that happens I think it would do more for the industry than what AC did messing with a diesel in a 4x4.

I don't know about motorcycles and ATV's but Evinrude has some awsome outboards called the e-tec series going from 40hp to 225hp using 2 stroke motors... I just kind of thought since Evinrude and Bombardiere (Can-AM) are connected that it would be nice to see the 4x4 Utility come with a 2 stroke motor.

I can't imagine that a 2stroke would make a good trail ATV. I used to ride 2 stroke bikes and they were good for racing but not so much for trail or Mountain riding. They just don't have the torque of a 4 stroke. You have to keep a 2 stroke wound up pretty high to make good power.

Not so, I had a 250 Ossa enduro that was a stump puller, the darn thing was like a tractor it had so much low end torque. It is all in the porting, similar to what a camshaft can do for 4-strokes. Actually a 2-stroke would deliver the power more smoothly because if fires on every up-stroke instead of every other up-stroke.

The 2-stroke you are talking about was designed to turn high rpm. If a 4-stroke was setup to turn high rpm then the lower end would suffer also.

Yeah, you've got a point. I'm just speaking from past experience on 2 smokes. The ones(dirt bikes) I've been on are all power on the top end and not much for low rpm grunt.

I started the topic because I know that technology has advanced quite a bit and Evinrude has some outboards that are awsome. And was wondering if the ATV factories might jump on board and get one for 4x4 Utility. If I was the factory I would think that a high tech 2-stroke would be a good market instead of a diesel.
Evinrude has some great videos as to what they have done with their 2-stroke engines. If you get a chance it is well worth watching.

Come on the 2 smoke atv industry is dead. Not tryin to start anything but there is a reason why all of the major manufactures have stopped making them in atvs, yes the evinrude e-tec is very impresive but give it time and bombardier will drop them for 4 strokes also. The way the greenies are attacking anything that makes noise or polution (snowmobiles, atvs, bikes so on and so on) The will eventually get there way. But ya the 2 smoke atvs were fun I had plenty of polaris atvs back in the late 80s and early 90s and really like riding them. There is just something about the smell of a 2 smoke in the morning
