I have owned a 1998 Cat 500 for three years now with no problems. I Would buy another one. Very dependable, solid machine.

I just developed cracks on two of four welds, that secure a foot guard to the foot rest on left hand side. Also within the first three months I had to stop drill four each cracks on the rear plastic body panel under the seat. Other than that, all has been great. Quite satisfied!

What i did was added a spring on the back of the caliper on the brass colored pin to hold the brake shoes open. The shoes are loose and they wiggle the small spring keeps them from wiggling against the rotor and it has eliminated the squeeking. The brakes work just fine. I hope that helps you, it was easy to do.
