Chumley, thanks for the info about not having to change belts, but as far as the cvt being just like a snowmobiles, I don't know anyone here in Louisiana that own any. We have swamp buggies and airboats and water skis. But I do appreciate your trying to help me. I am sure I can find something on the net, breaking it down so that I can understand.
I thought I saw somewhere that a 100 hr. warning light comes on for the belt, that is why I figured it was best to change when I put the new clutch springs in.
By the way, while we were playing last weekend in the goop, a friend has a Kaw 360, and his belt started squealing every time he took off. This was the first time he had this happen as it is only a couple months old, and he had only been in mud and water a few times before. He said it wasn't making any noise later that day, guess it dried out.
Thanks</end quote></div>
It is highly likely that your friend needs to adjust the belt on his 360.
I had a bookmark that showed step by step how to do the clutches, but I decided to check it before I posted it and now the link doesn't work. Pick up a service manual for your quad, that should clear it up for you.
Have fun.

yes buckaroo you read it right. we like many others have spent many hours in the mud breaking and beating our machines. if you go to a more aggressive tire you automatically increase the chances of breaking drivetrain components no matter what. if you have sufficient power it will rip up the terrain or make you go forward just from the momentum of the tires. i don't care if you believe me or not but this is something i have seen time and time again.

weez: I can kinda see what you are saying....with more hp, the tires will spin faster and not grab as much, and therefore cause less - not more - stress on the drive train. A slower spin on the tire will allow it to grab more.

i make observations of what has happened to me and then post them on here. of corse this won't be the case 100 percent of the time but i have had way fewer problems with my 650 then i did with my 500 with the exact same tread pattern and sized tires. i have actually had 0 problems with my 650 other then 2 belts and i have more miles on it and have been harder on it. oh and the 500 didn't have diff lock and the 650 does.
