Belt noise
#1
I have a 05 650 V2 cat with 535 miles. my family member took it out mudding. when it returned it had a knocking noise coming from the belt cover. I remove the cover today and don't see anything wrong with the belt or pullies (cluch spring, weights) and there was very minimal dust. I started it up and notice that you get the same noise (not as intense). Does anyone have any ideas or heard of this before? I've searched the forum and the only threads I see are for reseting and shimming?
I would also like any advise on purchasing tools for the job, like where for best prices.
Thanks,

Low end knocking doesn't sound too healthy. Since you removed the side cover and it doesn't seem to be coming from the clutch area it would appear that it is internal to the engine and on the lower end. I don't believe it is going to be a simple adjustment or an inexpensive fix. I think when all is said and done that you will find that it probably is developing or developed a serious issue.
I am sure you are aware of this by now, not to let others take your bike without supervision, especially since they have nothing invested or to loose. It would appear that for the period of time that it was taken that it probably had a pretty hard life and was tested to extreme and probably was ridden as if it were stolen rather than as if it were owned. A good lesson to be learned about the respect for other peoples possessions.
