Default Carb problems

Here is the problem I am having I have a 2000 300 4x4 I am getting ready for hunting season. When I put the cat away it ran so I go to start it and nothing checked plug it was good still nothing I look at the carb it is all varnished up so I clean and put carb back in the cat. Still it wont start so I put some starting fluid thru the carb and it starts up and idles just fine for quite a while I try switching the choke back and it dies so I try starting it again nothing wont start unless I use some starter fluid. It will idle just fine but when I go to give it gas it dies what do you guys think the problem could be.

You may need to clean the gas tank and fuel line. I would take the tank off and empty it and spray some carb cleaner in there until it comes out the fuel line. You also might want to check the vent for the gas tank and make sure it is not obstructed or crimped. It you get it running and it stops then take the gas cap off, if it keeps on running then the vent is obstructed and causing a vacuum.

I will give it a try thanks I thought maybe the float was stuck in the carb but I thought it looked ok when I cleaned it I was going to go back thru the carb again too see if I see anything obvious.

If possible you may want to totally remove the carb from the machine. Spray every hole and jet with a good amount of carb cleaner. Then using an air compressor blow air through each hole and ensure you can get air through it. This would include removing the float bowl and needle jet and cleaning its hole.

I have had to do this so many times since May on peoples machines that I have lost count. Don't just go by looks as a tiny chunk of crap can plug the any one of the 2 jets or choke bypass and screw things up.

The fuel from the stations around here has been so crappy that I am considering doing this to my machines once a year as a preventative measure.

Good Luck and Happy hunting.

If you have not gotten it fixed yet you can always steal the carb off of 'booboobears' machine. Just leave his brakes, I have first dibs on them. If you have problems getting the carb off he will hold the flashlight for you - lol...
