Breakin Period
#1
I've got an '07 400 LE, I have read numerous times that after the "break-in perioid" the AC will "come alive." How long is the break-in period and what changes to make the AC come alive?
thanks.
thanks.

The normal break-in period is around one hundred miles, but I know that with my 04 AC 400, it seemed to wake up @ around 300 to 400 miles. The best thing IMO that can be done to get the optimum performance out of it is to be religious on the tune up intervals. You need to check the valves, keep the air filter clean, keep a good plug in it, and keep your carb tuned for temperature and elevation. I had good luck with my 400, and I hope you do too. Hope this helps

Mine started to wake up around 300 miles and was pretty awake by 500. I did short burst of WOT (Wide Open Throttle). MPH for each hundred miles. WOT to 10mph during the first 100 miles, 30mph during the 300 miles segment etc. Shut it down often to let the engine cool and allow the rings to expand and contract. I also changed oil every 100 miles. Use regular dino oil it is cheaper than synthetic.
Try not to do a top speed run until you have at least 300 miles or more on it. When ever you do a WOT let it come back down to an idle. Constantly change your speed and don't hold a given speed for any length of time.
My top end is about 52 mph. Once you get yours broken in then you should be around 50-52 mph at the top end.
One of the best things you can do is to keep your air filter clean. I clean mine after every long ride or at least every 100 miles.
Use regular gas and stay away from mid or super grade.
Do a search for "Air-Jetting", you can get more power and better gas mileage for about $6.00.
Good luck and welcome to the AC family.

Thanks for the info guys. BTW, Buckaroo50, I tweeked the suspension and air pressure in tires to rid my AC of the "tippy feeling" I just gotta tell you,, Holy Crap! What a difference!! Thanks for the insight. The funny thing is, I'll get talking to the guys at my local shops and tell them about it and most of them don't seem to get it. Go Figure! As for the wheel spacers...would you consider them to be a must? I think I want them.

The spacers are not a must but really are nice. Feels like a go-cart. Really good stability traversing across hills etc. You can really handle off-camber like a breeze with security and don't feel like the machine will tip on it's side.

dantoth; if you plan on buying new rims and tires for your quad, you can get deep dish rims. that way you dont need spacers. save a little $. of course if you do order some you need to ask the dealer how much it will make the tire stick out. there are different sizes. in my pictures there is one when im just gettin ready to go in the mud hole and you can see the difference in width. they stick out about an extra 1.5 inches on each side. i do not have spacers. of course if your not buying new rims then you'll need spacers.this is just another option. as buckaroo said, better handling and stability. you may also find in mud holes that you will make it through easier than others with wider wheelbase. in the hole im going in in the picture it took 30 sec. the 650h1, a minute 30 sec. he has 28" 589s. i had 27" 589s. he also had a guy jump on front. i have video of it i just dont know how to load it.
