the fan running all the time would be good for your low speed hot temp situation where you dont get alot of airflow to your radiator. ive heard farmers rigging on/off switches to their fans because they spend alot of time idling so the radiator cant really do its job.

I had topped off the radiator with anti-freeze before we left yesterday. The temp warning flashed on my digital readout but no other signs of overheating. I checked the fluid levels just now, still topped off and nice and yellow. So without having a repair book in my hands yet nor an owners manual, I'm thinking the thermostat could be bad. Any other opinions with the little I've given you so far?
And I just pulled the recoil starter cover. The rope is missing. Otherwise it looked fine in and around that area. Can I just replace the rope or will I need to replace it as an assymbly?

I found the online parts catalog. I see the recoil assembly comes as a unit and it's $195 bucks.
I think I can live without it for the time being.

I doubt I'll be out in 20 deg weather in South Texas hehe But I understand where you are coming from.
From what I can tell from pictures on the internet of other assemblies, inside the cover there's a piece that the rope raps around and it is missing. So I assume I would need the whole unit in my case.
Anybody know of a place on the web that has discount or aftermarket parts such as this assembly?

And I was shocked to see the price of the decals. I thought I'd replace all the decals and make her look like new, or at least better. But heck, they range from $20 to $35 a piece! I want to buy a new seat and it's only a $120. But the Arctic Cat decals that run along side the engine are $35 each? That stinks! Four decals for $120 or a new seat for $120?

i'm lucky i got connections and get stuff from the factory under discount i agree that the thermostate could be bad. i would replace that and well it is possible too that there could be an air pocket in there. i personally wouldn't want to have the fan running all the time cause if you are sitting in one place that gets annoying hearing the fan all the time. it is designed to click on when it needs it. the fan does come on alot though cause it was about 0 here a couple weeks ago and i was out pushing snow and it was coming on. also if you want it to run cooler get a dynatek cdi. if you are gonna buy one aftermarket peace of equipment for this machine that would be it. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...QrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW all you do is take your seat off unplug the 3 connectors slip in the new one and connect them up and go like a bat outa hell. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...QrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW i would check to see but this may fit your 650? all you have to do is look up to see if the 500 has the same recoil. hope this helps.

+100 on the Dynatek CDI. You will love the power that machine will deliver with a CDI on it.

I saw that one on Ebay and started to bid on it, but then someone told me about CountryCat.Com and they have a used one in stock for less. I bought it for $50 and it should be here in a week or so.
Also, on the radiator issue, another 650 owner told me to check the radiator for debris. Sure enough, it is full of junk. I will clean it out this weekend when I get a chance. This may solve the problem. And I'm talking about junk between the cooling fins, not inside.
Thanks again for all the support and help.
