Winch installation
#1
I am wanting to get a winch and install it myself. I tried to help my buddy who just picked up a Honda Rancher 420 with a winch and when we tried to mount the winch we couldn't get the front bumper back on because the winch was in the way. I am kind of leary about trying to install mine...anyone ran into any issues on installing a winch on theirs. I have an '07 AC 400 4X4. Thanks in advance.

i have installed many winches on suzukis and arctic cat and no problems here. i have an 06 400. i recomend trying a gorilla winch you can find them on ebay. thay have great prices and the best customer service. in the first 6 mths of owning the winch if there are any issues thell take care of it no questions asked. check them out you wont regret it.

I also have an 06 400 and I went with the 3000# Gorilla Winch with no issues mounting. What I would recommend doing though is if you get one, don't use the mounting plate. I found that with the mounting plate there was not enough room for the winch in the factory-intended spot. What you will do is use the 4 bolts (provided with winch) and you'll actually bolt it directly to the quad. The bolt pattern on the winch matches up nearly perfectly with the quad pattern. I would recommend not tightening them down all the way until you have them all in. Finally, Arctic Cat is nice enough to supply a switch wire just ahead of the instrumenation pod that you can hook the winch into so it's only hot when the key is on. If you get that far, let me know and I'll tell you exactly where it is; it's kind of hard to explain. Hope this helps!

There is an extra wire that I am aware of...is that a good power wire instead of splicing into the ignition? Also I don't know if the 2500lb has the 4 mount holes like the 3000lb one. Thanks for the help...I'll definately keep you posted on the progress when I get it.

If I don't have to use the mounting plate, I'm just going to pick up the 3000lb gorilla winch. For around $200 you can't beat the price, but I'm going to have to wait...they don't have any in stock right now.

the gorilla winches are a warn bolt pattern and the cat bumpers are also a warn bolt pattern so they will mount up perfectly. no mounting bracket needed. i just bought there sythetic rope hawse fairlead and ****** block for $50 i hate the metal cable its always binding up. i have never used the synth rope but hear good things about it. ill let ya know what i think when i get it installed.

Yes, this wire is actually a female bullet connect end so you take the switch wire, put a male bullet connector on it and snap it in; no splicing required. As for the price, I think I picked mine up for like $140 shipped off of ebay from their company.
Rango, you'll have to report back what you think about the synthetic rope. I'm in the same boat you are and am tired of the steel cable.
