I would not get the demo. Larsons cycle has them for $5595 for the shift and 5799 for the auto. Look around some dealer ships will be able to come down a little bit. I was talking to a sales man up at larsons and he said that he might be able to go down to $5499 which is a very good deal for a 01' 500

RJS,
I have a 2001 500 manual and my dad has a 2001 400. On our Point of Origin Papers(emissions stuff) here in Texas it lists the engines output in HP at 22 for the 400 and 29 for the 500. I love them both! They can do anything. One of my friends has a polaris and I can't get him off of my 500 when we going riding together. He sold his truck to get an artic cat 500 and now I have to drag his polaris with my cat in my truck untill he gets his 500 in! If you can swing it get the 500. I like my dad's 400 but I love the 500. The 2wd/4wd feature is great. Large racks, hi/lo tranny, and brute torque make the 500 really work. We've got close to 700 acres down here and I can't get it stuck in any of the mud holes and even my stock tank is no match for either of our cats. Good luck in picking.

The diffecnces between the 2001 and 2000 are hard to say since some early 2000 models had less features than the late 2001 models. Here are the differences most likly to have come:

Different color wheels (black on the 2001)
Different graphic's
2wd/4wd on the 2001 only
More ground clearance on the 2001 (changed the rear axle)
Better brakes on the 2001 (steel resivor on the 2001, plastic on the older ones)
Hydralic foot brake (old one was a cable activated one that sucked so bad I removed mine)
Better Boot guards on the 2001
Slighly different rack designs
Differnt carbs
Larger gas tank on the 2001
Better gas guage on the 2001

And maybe more, not sure.

At one time a 350 was considered a powerful work horse. My cousin and friend own a 400 Foreman and a Kodiak 400.I can't imagine a job out there that those quads would have a hard time with.Get the 400 and put the extra moeny towards your future tire change and insurance.

Hey rjs, I got my 2001 AC 400 from Junction Sales and Service in Suring, WI (its actually just outside of Mountain). They had the best price on 4 wheelers in the entire Fox Cities and Green Bay area. They may be worth taking a look at for prices. It really would not be that far of a drive for you. They have a web site, look them up. Good luck.
