Thunder cat 1000
this thread's kind of old but hear goes bought a tcat in aug 08 took it to the dunes glamis oct then in dec took it to a shop to have some mods done ihad already done the sparkarestor mod . waiting for K&N to build a filter.they didn't get done soon enough. took the bike back to the dunes jan 09.all these times in racing up the dunes i was beating stock 400's and some 450's on the flat drags and up the hills but anything with any work i couldn't beat.early march took it back to KMS performance in phx. they got the K&N filter. installed a custon exhaust. to start the bike dynoed 51.17 after the mods 58.58. no clutch work nothing else. the fuel mix was right on no need for a power commander. prior to the mods i had set up a small test field 300yds to test stock tires against paddles. pretty much the samespeed and rpms with either tire. my paddles are 26x12x12/10 paddle scat trac extremes on the back. on the front are mud lites turned down tomohawks. rims are douglas190's/5x3 offset on the back and 4x3 on the front. off sets for stability in the dunes i had issues with my 650 praire before. mohawks for turning while duneing. back to the test track my speed increased 5 to 6 mph withthe new mods. of course the intake mod wouldn't work for you mud ducks, but for desert rats it's great the K&N fits right on top of the throttle body. the woops were really bad this march trip. due to the increase hp pulling back on the bars to skim through the whoops causes an extreme desire to wheelie. but from a dead stop a head of the whoops beat a tricked 450 honda and the same with 650 bomb. having raced both bikes before the mods the results i got were awesome. were talking about an 08 tcat. would i buy another?YOU BET!to big for trail to much power. (noway) i've found if i have the power to use, i stay out of trouble of course you do have to use some common sense. like clint eastwood would say(you got to know your limitations). for you mud ducks look at the incoming air box there's a way to increase air flow and still stay dry. looking at the front of the bike on the left side you can add another hose from the air intake to the air box. they have the little kitty starved for air. exhaust if you can find a black magic i understand it does a good job. my exhaust was cut off at the collector which is 1 5/8 to 2 1/2 pipe with ahand built muffler.with a legal forest, blm. gov approved spark arrestor. and it's under 95dbs in keeping me compliant in az .thus far to date the tcats the way to go for me!!!if i have issues down the road i'll keep you all informed.

I have an 09
200km had the tranny rebuilt (the said it was because of the 28" tires I was running)
Blown a few FAN fuses which caused the coolant to overflow and drain out
Water pump recall
Rear axle replaced
Loose steering and some other issues
$2,800 later....covered by warranty...Knock on wood everything fine now
I have an HMF Swamp XL Series...UNI Filter...Royal Purple all around...Green HID...26" Mud Lite XTR...3000lbs Warn inch...Warn Plowing System(not used yet this winter as we have only gotten 12cm of snow since last MARCH!)
I can hit 100km/hr is just under 5 seconds
All around I dont really have any complaints
Got to get myself a deluxe front bumper and I am in need of a Power COmmander V as my flow is off quite a bit (might also upgrade my plugs) and maybe try out the Dalton clutch kit
